I have been supply teaching with the Toronto Board since September, 2013, and that has kept me busy on the Monday to Friday front. Additionally, I married my long-time girlfriend, Claire, in August of 2016, and we now have a beautiful baby girl, Vivian, who is 8 months old. Needless to say, we have both been busy of late!
I get out to play every once in a while, but I’d love to be playing more often. Highlights over the past year have been, in addition to working with Soulchild:
- Being introduced to the music of Ken Whiteley and having the good fortune to perform with him on a few occasions in his Freedom Blues band. Ken is a veteran performer and master guitarist who is deeply rooted in Blues, Gospel, and Folk traditions. The songs he has created for the Freedom Blues project do not shy away from subjects that might be considered controversial, offering up critiques and calls for social justice while producing blues music that grooves hard. Don’t miss Ken in concert, should you get the opportunity!
- Occasional subbing in with Robbie Lane and the Disciples. Robbie and his band were up-and-comers in the early rock scene in Toronto, way back in the mid 1960’s, and had a few songs that charted at the time. In addition to performing their own music, the band showcases plenty of other period material and also regularly features guest performers with similar resumes. It’s always fun music to perform, and I get to play with a good horn section…..which incidentally includes some of the same horn section that works with Ken Whiteley….. 🙂
